Polyjacking / Poly Leveling | Frequently Asked Questions

Before After mudjackingWhat is poly leveling / concrete leveling?

Concrete leveling is a process by which we fix sunken, upheaved or broken concrete without replacing or removing the slab. Concrete leveling is appropriate for many concrete surfaces, including driveways, sidewalks, patios, garage floors, home foundations, and more. Poly leveling, aka polyjacking, is a particular type of concrete leveling wherein we use a foam mixture to raise & level concrete.

What types of services do you offer?

Here at JW Mudjacking, we offer a full range of concrete leveling and lifting services. Instead of removing and replacing your existing concrete, mudjacking, polyjacking, and concrete leveling strategies can fix broken, sunken, or uneven concrete in and around your home for a fraction of the time and cost.

What types of concrete surfaces do you level?

We offer concrete leveling services for all areas of the home, including driveways, garage floors, steps, porches and patios, sidewalks, and more.

What is your service area?

We proudly provide mudjacking services to customers in Portage, Wisconsin Dells, Baraboo, Sun Prairie, Madison, Beaver Dam, Lodi, and surrounding areas.

How does concrete leveling work?

Concrete leveling may seem complicated, but it is actually a fairly simple process. First, we assess the problem area and determine the appropriate strategy and materials we will need to fix it. Then, we drill small holes in the area of concrete that needs to be leveled. We then inject a mixture through the holes to fill the area under the concrete until it comes level. This mixture may be made of mud (mudjacking) or a polyfil material (polyjacking). Then, we reseal the small holes in the concrete. After a concrete leveling project, you should be able to walk or drive on the repaired area again within hours.

What causes concrete to sink and move?

While concrete itself is a strong and stable material, the movement of soil underneath concrete can cause it to sink, crack, and shift. Water is often the culprit here, whether it be regular rainfall or a plumbing leak, water can wash away soil or cause it to compact. When the concrete around your home moves, it can cause water pressure to build up against your foundation, setting you up for potential moisture issues down the road. Trust us when we say you won’t regret leveling your concrete!

Why do I need my concrete leveled?

Unfortunately, soil movement and erosion can cause the concrete around your house to shift, sink, and crack. When this happens, the shifted concrete can cause water pressure buildup around your home, which could potentially drive water into your basement. Over time, moisture in your home can cause mold and mildew. Rather than waiting for that to happen – and for the expensive repairs – leveling your concrete now is a significantly cheaper and more efficient fix.

How much does concrete leveling cost?

Concrete leveling costs vary depending on the size of the project and the materials used. Mudjacking uses a mud mixture that is cheaper than the alternative polyfill mixture. A mudjacking repair is long-lasting and stable but may need to be redone after 5 to 8 years. Polyfill lasts longer and is even more stable, but is a more expensive option. Is concrete leveling cheaper than replacing concrete?

Yes. Concrete leveling services are significantly cheaper (anywhere from $3 – $5 per square foot) than replacing concrete (up to $10 per square foot). Replacing concrete is also very labor-intensive and time-consuming, as you would have to wait for the new concrete to fully dry before using that surface. Concrete leveling can be done in a day with only an hour or two wait before you can use the surface.
