How Concrete Leveling Works

mudjacking near meIf you have noticed that your concrete driveway, patio, or sidewalk has started to sink or slope, it may be time for concrete leveling. There are two main methods for leveling concrete: mudjacking and poly leveling. In this blog post, we will discuss the process of concrete leveling and the difference between mudjacking and poly leveling. We will also talk about the benefits of concrete leveling for your home or business.

At JW Mudjacking & Concrete Leveling in Portage, we offer both mudjacking and poly leveling services for homes and businesses. If you are curious about how concrete leveling works, keep reading!

The Concrete Leveling Process

The process for leveling concrete is relatively simple. First, we drill small holes in the sunken concrete. Next, we pump a concrete leveling mixture into the holes. The mixture will fill any voids and raise the concrete back to its original level. Once the concrete is level, we will patch the holes that we drilled and leave your space looking even better than we found it.

Mudjacking vs. Poly Leveling

There are two main types of concrete leveling that we offer here at JW: mudjacking and poly leveling. Both are effective methods for raising sunken concrete and both have their benefits and drawbacks.

Mudjacking is a process where concrete is lifted by injecting a slurry mixture under the slab. The slurry mixture consists of water, clay, sand, and cement. This mixture is injected into the ground under the sunken concrete slab using a hydraulic pump. The pressure from the hydraulic pump lifts the concrete back to its original level.

Benefits of mudjacking include the fact that it tends to be less expensive than poly leveling because the fill material is less expensive.

Poly leveling is a process where polyurethane foam is injected under the sunken concrete slab. The polyurethane foam expands and lifts the concrete back to its original level.

Many people choose poly leveling over mudjacking because of its many benefits. While it is slightly more expensive than mudjacking, poly leveling is an overall quicker process because the polyurethane foam dries much more quickly than the concrete slurry mixture. This means you can use the concrete surface again within an hour or so. Another benefit of poly leveling is that it lasts for years. Polyurethane foam, once cured, will not be eroded by soil or water over time. It’s also very lightweight, so it won’t sink further into the ground due to its weight.

Benefits of Concrete Leveling

There are many benefits of concrete leveling for your home or commercial business, including:

  • A level concrete surface looks nicer than a sunken one.
  • A level concrete surface is safer to walk on, preventing trips and falls.
  • A level concrete surface will last longer because it is not as susceptible to cracking and breaking.
  • A level concrete surface significantly lessens your risk for water intrusion or damage to your foundation.
  • A level concrete surface eliminates the risk of pest infestation in voids below the concrete.
